Ginataang Labong with Saluyot (Bamboo Shoots in Coconut Milk with Jute Leaves) Recipe

Labong or bamboo shoot is commonly use in Asian Cuisine. In Philippines, the most popular dish is ginataáng labóng. There are different versions of ginataang labong according to the availability of  ingredients like pork, crablet, shrimp and sardines.

Saluyot leaves in ginataang labong gives more flavor. It blends the creamy taste of coconut milk.

Ginataang Kuhol (Escargot in Coconut Milk) Recipe

Ginataang Kuhol is consider as one of the exotic dishes in the Philippines especially in Central and Southern part of island of Luzon because of its main ingredient the Kuhol. Kuhol is a edible snails, or in French call them escargot. The said dish is typically cook in coconut milk, ginger and hot chili pepper.

Several restaurant in the country served Ginataang Kuhol as one of favorite appetizer and fingerfood with cold beer. At home typically served it with hot steamed rice during lunch.

Ginataang Kamansi (Seeded Breadfruit in Coconut Milk) Recipe

Kamansi or Seeded Breadfruit is very closely related to Jackfruit. Both have sharp points on its skin while Rimas has a flatter outer skin. Kamansi has soft seeds and Rimas has no seeds. This is very rich in starch. Kamansi si are believed to be native to Papua New Guinea and possibly Indonesia and the Philippines.

Alimango sa Gata (Crabs in Coconut Milk) Recipe

In the Philippines seafood recipes is very well known in every kitchen of the Filipino. They have a different style and uniqueness of cooking seafood but one best flavoring is by using coconut milk in their dishes.

Chicken Curry Filipino Style Recipe

Chicken curry dish is very familiar in many countries especially in Asia and had their own version on how to prepare and cook. But for me, the Filipino chicken curry is still the best because of aroma and creamy taste of curry and coconut milk.

Chicken Curry Filipino style is a variation of the “Ginataang Manok” (chicken cooked in coconut milk). Additional vegetables were added and the taste was spiced-up to increase flavor.

Laing Recipe (Taro Leaves with Coconut Milk)


Laing Recipe, also known as Ginataang Gabi is equally famous and tasty as the Bicol Express. The dish’s main ingredients are taro stem and leaf cooked in coconut milk and shrimp paste. It is also heavily spiced with red hot chilies. In other provinces especially in Northern and Central  Luzon, they add freshwater snails (susong pilipit) or Kuhol (escargot) as substitute.

Maja Blanca Recipe

"Maja Blanca" or coconut cake is a Filipino dessert made from fresh coconut milk, cornstarch, and sugar. The original Maja Blanca Recipe does not include young coconut, corn and milk. But in this recipe, I added condensed milk, young coconut and sweet corn kernels for added taste and more creamy texture. This luscious dessert is easy to make and the ingredients are very common and available in the market.

Pork Binagoongan with Gata (Coconut milk ) Recipe


Pork Binagoongan "Pork with shrimp paste" is an authentic Filipino recipe. This recipe is easy to prepare, tenderized pork is sauteed and cooked with the fermented shrimps. The shrimp paste has the most dominant flavor. In order to balance the salty taste, vinegar, along with sugar and coconut milk/cream are added.

Bicol Express Recipe

Bicol Express is a famous dish which originated in Bicol Region of the Philippines. It is pork strips and green finger peppers ("siling haba" or "siling pamaksiw" in tagalog) cooked in coconut milk. Bicol Express is very rich and very spicy.   Bicol express in the Philippines have different versions, some  include ginger, some include turmeric, some include bagoong or shrimp paste and other use sea food ( tuna, shrimp, mussel and squid) instead of pork.   In Thailand they have their own version of bicol express  and they called it "siamese"

Wing Bean Salad (yum tua pu – ยำถั่วพู) is a central Thai dish featuring “wing beans” which are blanched and tossed with coconut milk, roasted chili paste, toasted coconut, tamarind, palm sugar and peanuts. If you can’t get wing beans where you are, they can be substituted with green beans or snap peas.
